(in Christian contexts) perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding.“without providing for a time of healing and discernment, there will be no hope of living through this present moment without a shattering of our common life”
How should a person feel when they ask you to look at there work; be art, prose, written songs, the arts. They ask you to look at there work and for you to give them feedback. You the older artist or a little more inclined to give an opinion tell that person their work is Amateurish at best. Yet turn around and say, “Will you pay me to redo it?”
With a straight face mind you. Why would an artist want to do the work of another artist. Why would an artist steal the ideas of someone’s art that Amateurish. How could you make, “better the ideas of something that has already been produced?” Oh wait that has been the argument of the illustrator for years. That has been the argument of the artists for years. That is how rivalries are developed. One company tells the other I can do it better because you are Amateurish at best. Well I am not sure if any of them asked each other to pay each other for ideas or sketches.
That is what happened to me the other day. An unknown artist came up to me and said, “Your stuff is Amateurish at best, will you pay me to re-do it?” All in one line. I had to tell him no. I am under the firm opinion that what one man does not appreciate, another will. What one man does not pay for, Another will. I can’t wait for someone to come up with a story board of my work and say they had the idea first. If I don’t get paid through my own merit. That is what the courts are for. Certainly not above getting paid by any means necessary. Especially when it comes to buying and selling ideals. I tell people all the time to come up with there own ideas. We are taught from a young age not to plagiaries, yet that is all I see. Regurgitating Mimicked Ideas. Not a single person trying to buy into innovation and calling someone’s art Amateurish while at the same time wanting permission to resale and idea that they never thought of. Begs the question, “If my Art is so Amateurish where did you get the Inspiration to even look at it, let alone want to draw what I drew or want to speak on what I spoke on, as if to claim you can draw too?”
When I run across people like that, That take me back to high school in there presentation I have to walk away because I am trying to elevate in life, not repeat failures or walk down empty cul-de-sacs looking for something out life. That is what that man, can’t call him an artist, reminds me of, an aimless walker. A leach, one that claimed to be have been artist for a long time. I claim him to have been a thief for a long time. An uninspired thief with no imagination, only a double forked tonged trying to sell dreams to a dreamer.
Have they not seen from my work that I am the “Dream Weaver” who has a stroke of genius. I mean every line. Instead they come to me asking to have the ideas and art work for free or experimentation and no appreciation fund. If there was not something to it, then surely this unknown artist would have looked the other way, instead he asked permission to take my work and call it his own. How interesting.
Now there are those that would say, “This argument does not have to do with politics or philosophies about money, It has to do with pride.” That I should just give a little to gain a little, it is just art. It is just a manuscript. It is just a piece of paper, you can write more, right?
This has everything to do with politics, cause I could go to a capitalist and they might cheat me on how much they pay me, but at least they pay you. A socialist and a social-light will never pay you but in return will ask you to pay them for simply looking at your work. I find it backwards in thinking and counter productive for anyone.
I recently wrote on this subject of payment:
You want more Black influence in an industry that has always been set to gain from negative voices? Develop an Identity and Ideal. Teach the institutions how to educate your young on how to write and tell there stories. Teach them how to create an identity beyond what they have received from political historians that never had there best interests at heart. Reform from old ideas of not being good enough or irrelevant and make your voice prevalent. Never sell out for a dollar but when a man comes to you and says, “Get me published.” Take that story and run with it. Pay him what you owe him and tell him to come up with more! Teach your children how to read so then they can recite, put them in front of the camera and make heroes out of what is in front of you! Now if the story of Detroit Black kids ending up locked up and so on bothers you, if it bothers you that a white man wrote it first; Change the story, write more and louder, put your name on it, and tell the story of how that black man did his time, got out to own his own! Turn every Black man into Lex Luther who later becomes Superman, who later becomes the OLD MAN on the Mountain teaching all his friends how he came from the gutter but now he can lead you to the promised land. (Now what I just gave you was pro-bono work, I can’t do all the thinking for you). Unless you are going to pay me?
and people still wanted to argue:
